Hello My Stamps, How I Have Missed You

My paper is finally just about done...I want to read it through one more time just to make sure it doesn't need to be edited any more, and it's done. I meant to work on it on Friday evening, but instead I sat around and stitched on the project I can't show because it's a gift for someone while Lee and I watched some History Channel program about tattoos of Russian prison gang members, and then we watched L.A. Ink. I think working for Kat Von D would be akin to being in a Russian prison gang, the woman manufactures Drama. :p But anyway, that meant I had to work on the paper on Saturday and I was poky enough writing the last couple pages that I didn't finish till about five. Then Lee and I watched Wolverine and I stitched some more.

But finally this afternoon, I got to do a little bit of stamping: I made twelve multipurpose thank you/Thanksgiving/fall cards. Lookie!

Aren't they purdy? All supplies by Stampin' Up! I used Falling Leaves and Grateful Greetings, plus some patterned paper from the SU holiday mini. Very easy cards, all I used was stamps, ink, and paper. And sponges and dimensionals because I love dimensionals so much I should buy stock in them. I even decorated the inside a bit:

Nothing fancy, but the whole card is pretty simple so I think this fits. So, after making twelve of those and staring at the beautiful colors for so long, I started to think about this one kokeshi doll that I got for Vicki a while back that was in those same colors. Before I knew it, I was in my car and driving to the shop and lo and behold, a new doll has joined our household. And she matches the cards I made today!

Isn't she just totally adorable?! She'll be my "yay I'm finished with another research paper" celebration doll. Last weekend Lee had to go pick up his scuba gear that he had serviced, so I went with him so I could visit the store that sells dolls over by where Tsunami Scuba is. Here are my two "I'm procrastinating about writing my paper" dolls ;)

Wow, I've increased my kokeshi doll collection by four this month. I should write papers more often....NOT!! I have a hard time making myself sit down and actually write the papers. The research part doesn't bother me really, but I take so much time doing reading through the research that it's hard for me to get started on the paper itself. But anyway, I can just about stick a fork in this one.

Wish I had one more day to this weekend so I could do some scrappin, but alas, that will have to wait for next weekend. I think that this is the last week of my current class, so maybe I'll have to get an "I survived the final exam" kokeshi doll. JUST KIDDING, LEE!!

Sort of. :D

Six and a Half Pages Down...

But I got a reprieve. One of my classmates convinced our professor to slide the due date back to next Tuesday, woohoo! I will still work on the paper tonight so I can get as much done as possible before the weekend hits...I don't want another weekend totally sucked up by this paper. Bleah!

ETA: It is now Thursday evening and I'm up to ten pages. So it's a good thing this isn't due tonight, but I don't have *that* much more to do before I can call it a day on this puppy!

ETA: 11 a.m. on Saturday and I'm at eleven and a half pages. The home stretch is in sight!!

T Minus Five Days And Counting

Well, my twelve to fifteen-page paper is due on Thursday, and I haven't written a single word on it yet. I did spend a LOT of time today doing research, so I hope to get at least the first several pages written tomorrow. This is for my Theory & Ideology class, and I have chosen to write about eugenics. I was going to write about Nazism but there is just too much out there to wade through in the time I have left, so I figured eugenics would be a bit more manageable as a topic. It's been pretty interesting reading today. Lee kinda rolled his eyes at me when I told him I got this idea because of watching Star Trek. Go watch the original series episode "Space Seed" or the movie "The Wrath of Khan", you'll see what I mean.

In other news, we have discovered a pretty serious down side to our new house: ticks. Since we returned from the States, I have discovered no fewer than THREE ticks attached to Sadie, which makes me feel like a bad dog mama even though we're doing the Frontline thing like we're supposed to. So Ree has been spraying stuff on the lawn since we think she might be picking them up in the backyard, and I'm obsessively checking both kids over for signs of any more bloodsucking fiends. Vader hasn't had any so far, I think maybe he's so sweet that the ticks just can't handle it, maybe that's like the parasitical equivalent of a decadent dessert that you can't eat a whole lot of because it's too rich :p

I seriously miss my craft room. I still need to do some organizing in there, and I can't wait until after my paper is due on Thursday so I can actually do something fun and crafty for a change. I think it's been almost a month since I last made a card? Crazy! And I'd love to do some scrappin' work too...unfortunately now is also the time to figure out what class I should take next term, so I'm already contemplating the *next* big long research paper. Maybe next time I won't procrastinate with quite so much abandon...oh, who am I kidding? Next time I have a paper due, I'll be stressing about it at the last minute just like this time. But for right now, I'm going to bed. In the meantime, you should check out today's post on Cake Wrecks. Arr!!

Little Red Riding Hood, You Sure Are Lookin' Good

You're everything a Big Bad Wolf could want. Aaaawwoooooooooooooooooooooooo! I mean baaaa!

I love that song. And now I have the kokeshi doll to go with it!!

Is she not totally flippin' adorable? I'd been admiring her for a long, long time and when I found out that this was the LAST ONE at the shop, well....she came home with me :) She's a different style than all the rest of my kokeshi dolls (of which I now have fourteen, but I figure if I was aiming for an average of one a month for the entire time we've been here, then I'm still behind by seven). I think this one may go to live on my desk at work.

Anyway, since I have once again been buying the kokeshi dolls, you can probably tell that we are finally back on Okinawa. Hallelujah!! That flight is waaaaaaayyyyy too long and I don't wanna fly anywhere else for a long time. At least not until I have lots more chocolate. Lee is doing well post-surgery, not quite at 20/20 yet but his prescription was strong enough before the surgery that he's been told it's just going to take a couple of months before he gets all the way to perfect vision. In fact, the doc told him that he's healing ahead of the power curve, but Lee's still all impatient and stuff. And he's trying to convince me that I should have laserbeams shot at MY eyes too so I don't have to worry about glasses or contacts anymore. Honestly I am slightly jealous about that part, it's the whole *eye surgery* idea that gives me the wiggins.

So we got back here and were severely jet lagged, and then both of us were working like mad people to catch up at work, then I had a midterm on Tuesday, then I started freaking out about the 15-page paper I have due on September 24 that I haven't started yet, then our Internet went out for a while. So not much going on here :p Oh, and yesterday I had to go get some new Cocok's toes (that would be at Cocok's with the Silent K), I was so *over* those blue stripes (sorry Amber, I never really got on board with those stripes...the green ones were way cuter). So lookie!

I'm being kind this time and not posting toe pics on the top of the page, so just in case I don't blog again for a few days then you won't be staring at my toes every time you refresh the page (which is at 15 minute increments all day, right?) So anywah, I'd been looking at this design last time and then went Toe Twinkie with Amber instead on blue stripes, so I got this one now. Don't think I've had my toes painted pink yet so it's something different. And I think I've got my next toes all picked out, I'm gonna go retro SHE-RA toes!! You'll just have to wait to see what that means in my warped mind, my friends. For now, I like these, and for once I think I actually have clothes that will coordinate, because it is important to coordinate your clothes with your toes. Clinton and Stacy said so. (I so made that up.)

Liz told me she was expecting a new blog post (behold the blog post!) *and* a new scrapbook layout this weekend. Yeah, finishing a scrapbook page is SO not happening this weekend, but I can show you what's been in the works for, like, a month now:

Those are pics from our trip to Chinatown last December, and I've kind of been working with the pics from the other Chinatown temple too, but this is about as far as I've gotten. I would lurve to finish this right now, but I should be online doing research about the Nazis 'cause that's what my paper is supposed to be about. But I think first I have to go to the store or else I won't have any Lucky Charms for breakfast tomorrow, and I need to start my Monday off with Magic Marshmallows or the world as we know it will...not care, but still, I like my Magic Marshmallows.

I think I've been watching too much Gilmore Girls lately, it's starting to affect my speech and thought patterns. I also started a new cross stitch project while I was in Texas, but I can't show it here because it's a gift for someone. Dude, I should do more stitching for ME just so I have stuff to post about. But for now, I need to be researching for that darned paper. Aaaahhhh! Less than two weeks before it's due. Urgh.
